Focusing on Some Potential Regrets

Introduction

In my youth, I thought that my life span would be approximately 65 years of age. It was not based on any scientific evidence, but a feeling based on my own limited life experiences. As we know, our ability to forecast the future is often seriously flawed.

Fast Forward and Back

My naive prediction was not accurate. At seventy-six years of age, I have already surpassed my previous assumption of an earlier death. I have not avoided the inevitable, but I have learned a lot more about the nuances of life.

In looking back, I have been influenced by Bronnie Ware, a palliative nurse, who published a book, “The Top 5 — Regrets of the Dying” which included the following:

“I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.”

“I wish I hadn’t work so hard.”

“I wish I’d had the courage to explain my feelings.”

“I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.”

“I wish that I had let myself be happier.”
